Choosing the Right Exercise for Low Back Pain

Where is that pain coming from?! Don’t just assume that low back pain is only muscular or bone-related. First things first, get the proper assessment. You can find lots and lots of information on the internet that talk about the common causes of low back pain. However, don’t be fooled into thinking a little research will give you the right answer to where that pain is coming from. Assessing the structure and function is vital; specialists such as chiropractors do this very thing.

After your check-up, your chiropractor can give you the OK to start exercising. This is where some people make the same mistake again and again. By self-treating the condition it is possible that you are making things worse. Instead of repeating the same mistake, ask better questions to the right doctors to find the best exercise for low back pain.

Communication is the key to your success. First, ask your doc for the names of at least two or three certified personal trainers (if he/she hasn’t already given you them). Before setting up your first appointment with the trainer, ask: what should I expect from my first exercise session, how much does each session cost, do you offer any package deals, are your exercise programs individualized, have you worked with others with the same condition that I have and will you send your notes back to my chiropractor? Interviewing the trainer will give you a good idea for expectations and who they are.
